Would you be open to 100% barter instead please?

Being a Hotel Film Production company, frequently we come across potential customers who ask us if we’d be interested in exchanging our Video Production and Photography services for accommodation and consumables at their properties. In fact, this happens almost on a daily basis.

The short answer is no, thanks.  Although we are always open to partnerships where both parties can benefit, we respectfully have to refuse to work on a 100% barter basis. Some conditions allows us to work on a part-barter, part-payment basis. Should this be the case, we will always get in touch and make a proposal up front.

That being said, we understand that small businesses have minuscule budgets, and we are always willing to try to find a suitable option within your budget. We also do not charge any travel fees so you are not burdened with the extra costs.

Why should I hire a professional video production company to produce my video, instead of making one myself?

We are always amazed that some hotel owners will spend many millions of dollars on building the hotel, but then take the photos of the hotel themselves with their $100 point and shoot camera.

A professionally captured captivating video will lift you above your competition, attract people to spend more time on your site, and give potential customers the confidence they need to make a booking. Your clients expect to see a gallery and video so it’s vital you provide the media or risk losing the client to someone that has.

Where, when, and how does the work get done?

Once we arrive at location, we allow a minimum of two full days for a typical shoot of a fully composed 90-second hotel video. A third or fourth day may be needed for larger or more complex destinations.

Day one (morning) on location is about preparation and walking the property with the General Manager and team, and looking at each of the areas on the shot list. We will discuss preparation for each area and also discuss the best times for each shoot, to avoid disrupting guests, but also to film when the natural lighting is at it’s best.

Day two and three will be full days moving from area to area and capturing all the raw footage.

The editing will take place back at the Alcantelado & Rocha studios and takes up from 4-6 weeks to be ready for the first presentation. We expect edits and you are free to make as many as are needed in the next two rounds. Once approved, we then embed your video and send you the media over Dropbox or WeTransfer.

After delivering the final product, will you provide the raw footage for future edits?

While two rounds of editing are included free, ensuring you’re completely happy with the results, we will not provide raw footage to be used for future edits.

You will have all property rights to the final video and/or photos – for Print, Internet, Television Broadcast, Cinema release and Advertising and any other medium known or not yet known throughout the universe in perpetuity.

What sort of equipment do you use?

For ground video, we shoot with the Canon 5D Mark II, SLR. This has an impressive choice of lenses, providing the freedom to soften or sharpen a background as we choose, to make interiors and guest rooms wider and more inviting, or to close in on interesting details. These cameras have revolutionized video production and our clients are stunned by the results.

For aerial cinematography we use DJI Phantom and GoPro Hero4 Black Edition camera rigs, which is the standard when it comes to aerial videography and photography. This provides full HD footage at 120fps for 1080p and 30fps for 4K. It weighs only 73 grams and can record video (2,704×1,524 pixels) at 45Mbps.

We use a Zenmuse gimbal to eliminate the possibility of vibration.

How do you deliver the media?

After all the final images are selected we usually deliver media over Dropbox or WeTransfer. We can also deliver via FTP, DVD, SD cards or whatever method is the best for the client.

What is the cost for your aerial photo and aerial video services?

We price each job on an individual basis. Factors including the location and amount of pre-shoot work required will play a part. However, we appreciate that sometimes, visitors to our site may just want a quick ballpark cost. Therefore we have a quick guide, with our “from” prices.

How far can your drone fly?

We’ve set a self-imposed limit of 2km (1.2 miles) from the transmitter. If the copter exceeds that limit, it will automatically return to the takeoff location. We like to maintain a visual of the drone at all times and fly accordingly, depending on visibility.

How long can your drone fly?

We use LiPo rechargeable batteries to power our copters. Each battery lasts approximately 10-15 minutes. A battery change only takes 2 minutes and we always bring multiple batteries to each shoot and recharge during flights as long as there is an outlet nearby.

Can you fly indoors?

Yes we can though naturally we require a fairly spacious room to fly in. When we operate indoors we are not subject to the rules and regulations placed upon us by the C.A.A. however a discussion needs to be had regarding insurance.

Is what you do legal? Where can you fly? What does the FAA have to say about commercial UAS flight?

Commercial UAS usage is such a new industry that the policies for governing them are still being established. The FAA is actively working towards regulating and certifying pilots and drones flying in the National Airspace (NAS) for commercial purposes; however, their policies are not yet codified into official law as they apply to UAS.

As long as our pilots keep our UAS’ within what is known as “Class G” or “unregulated” airspace, they remain covered and permitted under previously existing legislation relating to model aircraft. Generally this means staying under 400 feet, and away from any airports or other aerial activities. As long as we stay within our ceiling and operate our systems safely, we are cleared for takeoff.

What sort of non-aerial coverage do you provide?

We have multiple cameras, capable of time lapse and slow-motion, a full lens kit and stabilization equipment to give you high-quality films of events, landscapes, promos, real estate properties and more. We do all of our editing in-house to give you a consistent level of professionalism and quality and prefer to intersperse aerial shots with ground coverage to tell the full story of a place or event.

What happens if it`s cloudy or rains?

Alcantelado & Rocha’s 100% satisfaction guarantee ensures we’ll always make the extra effort needed to get things perfect.

As the weather plays a key part in allowing us to fly or not, if the weather goes against us (rain, strong winds) and we are not able to shoot, we will rearrange another date to shoot.

On one shoot in Koh Samui (Thailand), due to cloudy weather it took three whole days to get the shots required, and some of these had clouds in them. When the fourth day arrived with a cloudless sky, instead of making do, we started from scratch and re-shot everything. Our cinematographer went the extra mile to make it perfect for the client. He said “It’s a resort for honeymooners and couples who travel to Koh Samui for the sunshine they would not be excited looking at a resort with cloudy images”.

Going the extra mile

On another shoot in New Zealand, the owners prepped the bedrooms to the standard they felt was right, but our cinematographer knew he could do better. He steam ironed the pillows and bed-linen, pinned back the bed skirts, dusted the furniture and when it came to the exterior shots, even brought plants and flowers to brighten the view around the pool area.

What is the process to hire your services?

Call or email us with details about your production including exact location, date, time, purpose and camera requirements.  Once we review those details, we will email you an estimate for approval.  Once approved we require a 50% deposit before actually scheduling the shoot date.  Once the videography /photography is complete and the final images are selected, we require full payment.
